Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
It was really weird but as the therapy progressed I felt the trauma of my attempted rape being drawn out of me. After treatment I could look at the event and feel nothing, the anger and hate that I had previously felt had gone. Thank you so much for giving me my life back. T.T.Oxford
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is most likely to occur following a serious threat, or a perceived serious threat, to the life of the sufferer, or to the life of someone close to him or her, or after a sudden and traumatic loss.
Events which may give rise to PTSD are typically associated with extreme fear, helplessness or horror. Examples include violent assault, rape, torture, terrorist attacks, military action, natural disasters, air or maritime catastrophes, fires, kidnapping and road traffic accidents.
It is not only the people directly involved in such events who may go on to develop PTSD. Those who witness the events may also develop it, as may the family or friends of those involved in response to the suffering of their loved ones.
